Community Support
At SECU, we’re proud to call Maryland home. We are committed to strengthening and enriching the lives of our neighbors in the communities where we live and work. By fully embracing the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People,” we’re here to help our state thrive.
Being a part of a community means helping when and where you can. SECU supports Maryland communities through a variety of initiatives and programs that bring SECU employees, members, and neighbors together as a force for good.
SECU MD Foundation

SECU has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve. To help grow our community outreach initiatives, SECU launched the SECU MD Foundation in May 2017.
The SECU MD Foundation’s mission is to create a stronger Maryland by empowering access to education, supporting health and wellness, and serving as a catalyst for community development. To support this mission, the Foundation oversees an annual Scholarship Program, supports Financial Wellness in the community, and offers Grant Programs.
Apply for a SECU MD Foundation Scholarship

For 19 years, the SECU MD Foundation has proudly supported members pursuing their higher education goals through our annual scholarship program.
The 2025 scholarship program is now open. We are awarding $10,000 scholarships to students attending any of Maryland’s 16 community colleges who are transferring to a University System of Maryland university for the 2025-2026 academic year.
We will award twelve scholarships for a total of $120,000 in scholarship awards. Students that have transferred from a Maryland community college to a University System of Maryland school in the last 18 months are also eligible. Applications for the 2025 Scholarship Program are being accepted from February 18 – May 2.
The SECU MD Foundation is proud to help students take the next step in their educational journey by removing a heavy financial barrier and supporting their long-term financial well-being.
Employee Volunteer Program

When we come together as a team to serve our community, there’s no limit to the impact we can make. SECU employees can take up to 12 hours per quarter to volunteer in the community. While opportunities look slightly different in our current environment, SECU employees have come together over the years to volunteer at food banks, participate in the annual Days of Action, and teach students about financial wellness.
